June 21st, 2008 by benjaminDenver ’s Westwood neighborhood is one of the poorest in the city. Most Westwood residents are hardworking people who care deeply about the future of their children. But the impact of a continuing cycle of poverty seriously affects all Westwood residents. A few statistics about Westwood, according to The Piton Foundation:
The average household income is 69% of that for all of Denver
84% of school age children are Latino
56% of the residents have less than a high school education
34% of the residents are foreign born
76% of the population is Latino
37% of the population is under 18 years of age
40% of students are not English proficient
45% of all births are to unwed mothers
