The USHMM for five hours and then dinner. What a day! I’m impressed with how much sixth graders can process about the Holocaust. Several questions, “Why is the USHMM in America when it happened in Europe?” “I am worried that we do this to people” “Can I read the names of people who died?” and from a boy…”I let some tears escape when I saw some things and I wasn’t embarrassed, it’s sad Ms. Olson!”
The rain and cold didn’t dampen our spirits or learning today. We had a very moving day, topped off with an all-you-can -eat seafood buffet at Phillips! Always a hit. Be sure to see our pictures for the smiles of happy, full children!

We were up bright and early to taste the excellent breakfast here at Embassy Suites. All the students loved the hot, fresh food. A visit to the top of the Washington Monument started our day. It was a cool but clear day. We could see forever. Our next stop was lunch at our favorite, Red Hot and Blue. This is one of the restaurants we’ve visited ever since our first trip in 1993. The manager, Andy, and his staff were great, as usual!! We had two winners in the history trivia contest, Melissa and Cesar who won a Red Hot and Blue Shirt. A walk through the Arlington Cemetery, a visit to the Iwo Jima War Memorial, and a stroll through the FDR memorial ended our day. After pizza in our rooms, we’re read to call it a day. Be sure to see our pictures!
